ENGINEERING

A practical window into what it is like to think and work as an Engineering professional

IgnitED Engineering

IgnitED Engineering introduces young professionals to the wide variety of specialisms and fields within Engineering, through a hands-on understanding of what it means to think and work like an engineer.

Throughout the week, students reverse-engineer everyday objects, practise modelling techniques, and explore how engineering impacts daily life.

The week begins with an introduction to key engineering disciplines and a workplace visit, where students see how professionals solve problems using design, data, and real-world tools. They take on two Apprentice- style challenges: one focused on sustainability, and another exploring how AI is shaping engineering tools and systems. The week ends in a collaborative Friday innovation lab, where students team up across strands to combine their Engineering ideas with those from other disciplines.

Across five days, students come to see engineering as more than technical problem- solving — it’s a creative, systems-based approach to improving the world around us.
