IgnitED’s five‑day Summer Careers Experience at the University of Portsmouth gives young people aged 14–17 a real-world introduction to future career pathways and a taste of university life on a modern, industry‑connected campus in Portsmouth. This summer programme combines hands‑on learning, mentoring, and employer engagement to help students explore their next steps with confidence.

Highlights

Across the week, participants take part in practical workshops, employer visits, and industry‑led mentoring sessions designed to help them understand different career routes and build valuable skills for the future.

Schedule

Four days of the programme take place on the University of Portsmouth campus, where students learn from visiting professionals, collaborate with peers, and experience life at a leading coastal university. One day is dedicated to behind‑the‑scenes visits to local employers and industry settings, giving participants a genuine insight into how different careers operate in the real world.

Safety

The University of Portsmouth has been selected as one of IgnitED’s 2026 locations for its campus environment and strong links to local employers, innovation centres, and higher education pathways. All activities are fully supervised by trained staff and are aligned to our safeguarding procedures.

Accommodation

We understand that some participants may be travelling from outside Portsmouth and that daily commuting may not be practical.
