About the Programme

IgnitED’s five-day Summer Careers Experience at the University of Surrey gives young people aged 14–17 an inspiring, real‑world introduction to future career pathways and a genuine taste of university life on a leading campus in Guildford. This summer programme combines hands‑on learning, mentoring, and employer engagement to help students explore their next steps with confidence.

Highlights

Throughout the week, participants take part in practical workshops, employer visits, and industry‑led mentoring sessions designed to help them understand different career routes and build valuable skills for the future. The programme offers a supportive environment where students can explore their interests and connect with like‑minded peers.

Schedule

Four days of the programme take place on the University of Surrey campus in Guildford, where students learn from visiting professionals, collaborate with peers, and experience life at a top UK university. One day is dedicated to behind‑the‑scenes visits to local employers and industry settings, giving participants a genuine insight into how different careers operate in the real world.

Safety

The University of Surrey has been selected as one of IgnitED’s 2026 locations for its safe, welcoming campus environment and strong links to industry, research, and higher education pathways. All activities are fully supervised by trained staff and delivered in line with our safeguarding procedures to ensure a secure and supportive experience for every participant.

Accommodation

We understand that some participants may be travelling from outside Guildford and that daily commuting may not be practical. In these cases, we are happy to discuss supervised accommodation options for the duration of the Summer Careers Experience.
