Summer Careers Programme at the University of Brighton (Ages 14–17)

About the Programme

IgnitED’s five‑day Summer Careers Experience at the University of Brighton gives young people aged 14–17 a real‑world introduction to future career pathways and a taste of university life on a vibrant, creative, and industry‑connected campus on the south coast. This summer programme blends hands‑on learning, mentoring, and employer engagement to help students explore their next steps with confidence.

Highlights

Across the week, participants take part in practical workshops, employer visits, and industry‑led mentoring sessions designed to help them understand different career routes and build valuable skills for the future. The programme offers a supportive environment where students can explore their interests, meet like‑minded peers, and experience university life in one of the UK’s most exciting coastal cities.

Schedule

Four days of the programme take place on the University of Brighton campus at Falmer, where students learn from visiting professionals, collaborate with peers, and experience life at a forward‑thinking university known for its strong links to creative industries, health, business, and technology. One day is dedicated to behind‑the‑scenes visits to local employers and industry settings in the region, giving participants a genuine insight into how different careers operate in the real world.

Safety

The University of Brighton’s Falmer campus has been selected as one of IgnitED’s 2026 locations for its welcoming and safe campus environment, strong connections to local employers and higher education pathways. All activities are fully supervised by trained staff and delivered in line with our safeguarding procedures to ensure a safe and supportive experience for every participant.

Accommodation

We understand that some participants may be out of the region and for whom daily commuting may not be practical. For these students, we offer supervised accommodation options during the Summer Careers Experience.

A residential option is also available at the University of Portsmouth, where students can stay in university halls for a fully immersive week in this vibrant coastal city.
